WHOOMP There IT Is! #31 - It Just Keeps Flying

I'm truly baffled by how quickly time just flies on by. Half of 2016 is already gone!  I'd heard that once you turn 21 the years seem to pass 2 at a time. It's absolutely true!  Seems like it was just yesterday I turned 21. And it's so funny how now that I'm in my 40s, I finally feel like an adult even though I thought I was grown at 21!  With this being said, I like being in my 40s. And I consider myself to be growing better instead of  older.

I don't know where all that came from. You'd think I just celebrated a birthday, but I didn't. Not again until December, but thanks for humoring me.

Now on to quilty things!

I finished the Scrappy Litter Blox pattern I was testing. The pattern was featured in the June's Stash Builder Box and will be available soon at Lillyella. I like how it came out and I'm thinking about putting the optional border on it. What do you think?

I made these cute bandanna bibs for a birthday girl who just turned 1yr. I cannot wait to see one on her. The first set I made included a piece of flannel between the 2 layers of cotton. They were super soft but I was afraid they'd be too hot for here in AZ?  I ended up making a 2nd set w/3 layers of cotton and those are the ones I gave. The others will soon be listed in my Etsy shop.

My sis has been practicing her guitar daily and she's getting really good. Hearing her progress makes me want to play too. So the other night I pulled Ruby (my bass) out of the corner AND out of the bag! I even popped the "Getting Started" DVD into the computer and attempted to tune her. I got as far as tuning 2 strings. I'm planning to make time to practice and/or take a couple of my buddies up on their offer to teach me. I'm one step closer to being a rock star in the worship band!

I have an addition to my family.  A little fox face Pomeranian named Maurice. We call him Moe. =)

July is here! You know what that means?

A Thread for Life
Called Me Higher - All Sons and Daughters
I could just sit
I could just sit and wait for all Your goodness
Hope to feel Your presence
And I could just stay
I could just stay right where I am and hope to feel You
Hope to feel something again

And I could hold on
I could hold on to who I am and never let You
Change me from the inside
And I could be safe
I could be safe here in Your arms and never leave home
Never let these walls down

But You have called me higher
You have called me deeper
And I'll go where You will lead me Lord
You have called me higher
You have called me deeper
And I'll go where You lead me Lord
Where You lead me
Where You lead me Lord

And I will be Yours, oh
I will be Yours for all my life
So let Your mercy light the path before me

Until next time, Happy Sewing and God Bless!

WHOOMP There IT Is! #21 - And the Winner Is...

Thank you all for participating in the giveaway! I enjoyed reading what quilt blocks you'd like to see made into earrings.  I promise I read them all, even if I haven't replied yet.  And, I will definitely pass your suggestions on to Sandra. If you have not already done so, be sure to check out all of her fabulous jewelry creations at Fay West Designs.

Now, the moment you all have been wating for:
Congratulations GayLee!  You are # 8 and the lucky winner!  Please email me your address asap.  I'd like to get your prize mailed out on Monday.

Next order of business is about the 2016 UFO Challenge I'm participating in.   March's number is 6.  My #6 project is a Spiderweb quilt. I was inspired to make one after seeing Julie's gorgeous creation pictured below.  Something tells me that I'm going to end up w/more UFOs than I started with!
I've got a good list of  things to do this month.  Besides work on the Spiderweb quilt, I've got to make a gift quilt, several small items for a craft sale taking place in 2 weeks, sew a sleeve and label on Gossamer for the Arizona Quilters Guild Quilt Show, finish 2 test projects for Kids Camp, AND start a commission for 2 baby quilts! Pray for me y'all!

Now it's party time!

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.Phil 3:12-14 NIV

So I Made A Purse...

I was admiring a fellow quilter's purse at Kids Camp a few weeks ago.  Of course she'd made it herself. (Am I the only quilter who doesn't carry a self-made purse?) Anyway, I became obsessed...like I often do, and kept touching it and saying how awesome it was...even after she'd offered to send me the pattern! I'm a bit much some times.

Anyway, this is her awesome purse! It's a pattern she or a friend had previously purchased which she made modifications to.
I decided the first one I made would be for my sis. I went to my stash and chose this gorgeous Australian print and coordinating color for the lining.
And this is what happened!

I used an ultra firm fusible stabilizer on the purse body and décor-bond (firm) on the lining.  I didn't much like my experience w/the ultra firm stabilizer though...but I got 'er done!

There's a deep pocket on one side and a more shallow one on the other.  These,  like the inside pockets can be customized to your needs (the possibilities are endless) but I'm quite fond of them just the way they are.

And then, there's the inside!  This purse doesn't look all that big from the outside...so I was pleasantly surprised w/how roomy it really is inside! I threw a few of my things inside for the pic, but could've added a lot more!

The strap is what pulls the wooden handles together to close the purse. It can be doubled to wear as a shoulder purse or used as a long single strap and worn cross body (if made long enough). I made this one 56" long so it definitely can be worn cross body.  Therefore, I'm calling it the 2-Way Purse!

Here is my sis modeling it both ways.

And then...I made another one! This one is mine!  I love wood and liked the idea of seeing more of the wooden handles, so I changed the loops that holds them. I'm calling this one a 3-Way purse because it can also be used as a large clutch!  I didn't want to fuss w/the ultra firm stabilizer so I used décor-bond (firm) for both lining and purse body.  I also used the same fabric for the lining but did something different on the pockets. And speaking of pockets, I inadvertently lined both the pocket fronts and backings w/décor-bond. but didn't realize it until it was too late...so my pockets are a little stiff. =)

Here it is before I got the wooden handles
Here's a pic of the inside pockets.
And here I am modeling the 3-Ways to carry it!
Thanks for stopping by. Until next time,  Happy Quilting/Sewing and God Bless!

Kids Camp 2015

This year was our 4th annual Kids Camp.  It ran from July 13-17.  Kids Camp is a week long sewing day camp that Quilters Anonymous hosts.  We teach kids, 10 yrs+ how to sew, and they make several cute projects in the process!  We have 2 sessions, 9a-Noon and 1p-4p. This year we had 15 kids in each session, many of them repeats from previous years. This year I got to volunteer all day, every day.  I loved it!

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.- Romans 12:6-8 NIV

In Between Times

Hi y'all! Long time, no post! Oh how I've missed you! So let me fill you in on what I've been doing.

I finished my Cats Galore commission. I used a full loft batting and stitched in the ditch and around the cats which made it nice and puffy. My customer is very satisfied and looking forward to giving it to her mother-in-law for her birthday! I'm looking forward to hearing how she receives it!

I've also made a few bags.  The first being this snap-ruler bag. Pictured here w/a nifty coffee mug!

The snap-ruler bag is a project from Kids Camp. Kids Camp is week long day camp, hosted by the Quilters Anonymous chapter of the Arizona Quilters Guild, where kids, 10+ years come for 3 hrs a day and learn how to sew and make various projects while doing so.

I first volunteered 2 summers ago for an afternoon.  Last year I volunteered for 2 full days.  This summer will be our 4th annual Kids Camp and I'm excited to say, I'll be volunteering for the entire week!

The 2nd bag I made is this canvas work tote   A while back I found several, brand-new panels of this grey IKEA canvas fabric at Goodwill. I'm sure I didn't pay more than $2/panel for it because I only  go on 50% off Saturdays. I'm glad I finally found a project for some of it!

I also made this gorgeous Mondo bag. I love this pattern! I used lovely Japanese fabric given to me by a good friend stationed in Okinawa. Thanks Izola! I also made two more snap-ruler bags out of the same Japanese fabrics and gave one to to my sis.

And speaking of my sis...she's still stitchin'!  She had put quilting on the back burner for a few months but recently got back in the saddle and made this gorgeous jellyroll race quilt!  Way to go Sis!
I saved the best for last!  I made this blue beauty for David's birthday, which was May 1st. I named it My Baby's Blues.
Oh I almost forgot! I've worn my hair super-short for many, many years. Back in October I decided I was going to start growing it out. I'm sure some of you know what a long, grueling process growing your hair out can be. Alls I can say is Thank God for extensions!! I got my hair braided to get me through the ugly, awkward stages! What do you think?

Until next time, Happy Quilting and God Bless!
